A note on QR codes and the smallest sheet

On 5160/8160 the labels are 2⅝″ × 1″, and the generator draws a QR code at about 9.5 mm square. The same code prints at about 16.9 mm on 5163/5263 and 26.5 mm on 5164 — all at 100% print scale, so a “fit to page” setting shrinks them.

We have not tested how small a code real phones and printers cope with, so we are not going to quote you a minimum. What we can say is that 9.5 mm leaves little margin for ordinary print variation — a low-toner streak or a slightly fuzzy inkjet edge has not much to give.

If you are printing QR codes to scan with a phone, print one test sheet first and scan it with the phone and the lighting you will actually use. If it reads slowly or needs a second try, 5163/5263 gives you a code roughly 1.8× wider and 5164 roughly 2.8× wider — same workflow, fewer labels per sheet.

Barcodes are less fussy about size than QR codes at these dimensions, which is why the sheet pages open with the barcode generator by default.

Common questions

Which Avery sheet should I use for barcode labels?
5160/8160 gives you 30 small labels per sheet. 5163/5263 gives 10 that read from further away, and 5164 gives 6 with room for a description too.
Do I need an account to print Avery labels?
No. The barcode generator and QR code generator are public pages. Nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is required.
Which Avery sheets can the generator lay out?
Three — 5160/8160, 5163/5263 and 5164. Avery 5371 and 5395 have guidance pages, but the generator does not lay those out — each points you at the closest sheet it does.
How big does a QR code print on each sheet?
At 100% print scale: about 9.5 mm square on 5160/8160, 16.9 mm on 5163/5263 and 26.5 mm on 5164. A “fit to page” setting shrinks all three.
